Lectures

Wedding and Anniversary Quilts
Since women first began quilting, they have been making special quilts for wedding and anniversary celebrations. This is an illustrated slide lecture about typical patterns used for these quilts, wedding customs, traditions and symbolism - some dating as far back as the Ancient Greeks. Actual quilts will be shown from my present series on the theme.

Victorian Applique Revival
Today we are experiencing a resurgence of Victorian influence in clothing, interior decorating, needlework and quilting. In this lecture, we will look at the history, distinguishing characteristics, and symbolism of Baltimore Album quilts made in the 1850's and how these quilts have affected the quilting world today. Slides are included from the Baltimore Revisited Show in Lancaster, PA and from Emily Sienkiewicz's Applique Academy, as well as quilts made by students in my classes and workshops.

Flaunting Your Quilts
What to do with your quilts after all your beds are covered? Many innovative and creative ways to use and enjoy quilts in your home will be shown in the slide lecture. A mini trunk show of some of my work will be included.

Our Quilting Heritage
This is an illustrated presentation on the characteristics, techniques and dating of antique quilts. We will study the fabrics, construction methods and general characteristics of each time period. A trunk show of my antique quilt collection is included.

The Story of My Quilts
This is a trunk show of the quilts I have made over the last 20 years - from my first effort right up to my present projects. Available only when travelling by car.
